The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
