He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 olives, dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
