Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
