The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
