The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
