Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Join My worshipers and 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
