The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
