The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
