Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 of an orphaned relative 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
