The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Someone has (needlessly) demanded to experience the torment (of God), 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it very near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 save those that pray 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
