The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (of Revelation); 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
