The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
