We sent Moses with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said: "I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds." 46 But when he came to them with Our signs, lo! they laughed at them. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said: O magician! call on your Lord for our sake, as He has made the covenant with you; we shall surely be the followers of the right way. 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge. 50 Then Pharaoh made a proclamation to his people: 'My people, is the kingdom of Egypt not mine and these rivers which flow beneath me? What, can you not see? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 "And then - why have no golden armlets been bestowed on him? or why have no angels come together with him?" 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 Then when they displeased Us, We inflicted a retribution on them, so We drowned them all together, 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
