۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 [The others] said: "Then bring him before the peoples eyes, so that they might bear witness [against him]!" 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He answered, "Rather this biggest one of them did it. Ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they thought and observed: "Surely you are yourselves unjust." 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 We admitted him to Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
