The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin; 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
