He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
