He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and who has fear of God, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
