Behold, thy Lord called Moses: "Go to the people of iniquity,- 10 the people of Pharaoh; will they not be godfearing?' 11 He said: "O my Lord! I do fear that they will charge me with falsehood: 12 And my breast straiteneth, and my tongue moveth not quickly: so send for Harun. 13 They have charged me [with a crime] for which I am afraid they will kill me." 14 God said, "Indeed not; go both of you with Our signs, We shall be with you, listening [to your call]. 15 And come together unto Pharaoh and say: Lo! we bear a message of the Lord of the Worlds, 16 let the Children of Israel go with us!'" 17 (Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us, 18 "And you did your deed, which you did (i.e. the crime of killing a man). And you are one of the ingrates." 19 He said: I did it then while I was of those unable to see the right course; 20 Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord vouchsafed me a command and appointed me (of the number) of those sent (by Him). 21 "And this is the favour with which thou dost reproach me,- that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Pharaoh said: 'And what is the Lord of the Worlds' 23 Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, if you seek to be convinced with certainty." 24 Said he to those about him, 'Do you not hear?' 25 [Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers." 26 Said he, 'Surely your Messenger who was sent to you is possessed!' 27 Musa (Moses) said: "Lord of the east and the west, and all that is between them, if you did but understand!" 28 'If you take any other god except myself' he (Pharaoh) replied, 'you shall be thrown into prison' 29 Moses asked, "What if I were to bring you clear proof (of the existence of God)?" 30 Pharaoh said, "Show it then, if you are telling the truth!" 31 So Moses threw down his staff and suddenly it appeared as a serpent, plainly visible. 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it was white unto the beholders. 33
