The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
