[AND] the people of Lot gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 160 when their brother Lot said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 161 I am for you an honest Messenger. 162 so fear God and obey me. 163 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 164 Do you approach males among the worlds 165 and leave your wives whom your Lord has created for you? No, but you are a transgressing nation' 166 They said: If you desist not, O Lut! you shall surely be of those who are expelled. 167 He said: Surely I am of those who utterly abhor your doing; 168 “My Lord, rescue me and my family from their deeds.” 169 So We delivered him and his people all together, 170 Except an old woman among those who remained behind. 171 then We totally destroyed the rest, 172 and We poured a rain [of destruction] down upon them -- and how evil was the rain which fell on those who were forewarned. 173 Surely in this there is a sign: but most of them would not believe: 174 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and powerful. 175
