The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 so leave them to eat and enjoy themselves and let them be beguiled by vain hopes; for soon they will realise [the truth]. 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
