(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
