And whatever calamity befalls you, is because of what your hands have earned – and there is a great deal He pardons! 30 And you cannot escape from Allah (i.e. His Punishment) in the earth, and besides Allah you have neither any Wali (guardian or a protector) nor any helper. 31 And of His signs are the ships that run on the sea like landmarks; 32 If He willeth He causeth the wind to cease so that they keep still on the back thereof; verily therein are signs for every patient, grateful person. 33 Or, He wrecks them for what they have earned, but He pardons a lot. 34 He knows all those who dispute His revelations. They will find no way to escape from (His torment). 35 Whatever thing you have been given is the enjoyment of the present life; but what is with God is better and more enduring for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. 36 (This reward will be for) those who keep away from major sins and indecency, who forgive when they are made angry, 37 Who obey the commands of their Lord and fulfil their devotional obligations, whose affairs are settled by mutual consultation, who spend of what We have given them, 38 And those who take revenge when rebellion harms them. 39 But [remember that an attempt at] requiting evil may, too, become an evil: hence, whoever pardons [his foe] and makes peace, his reward rests with God - for, verily, He does not love evildoers. 40 And whoever defends himself after his being oppressed, these it is against whom there is no way (to blame). 41 Reproach is only against those who oppress people, and wrongfully spread rebellion in the land; for them is a painful punishment. 42 And whosoever forbeareth and forgiveth - that verily is of the firmness of affairs. 43
