AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they came in unto him and said: Peace! he answered, Peace! (and thought): Folk unknown (to me). 25 Then he turned quickly to his household, and brought a fatted calf, 26 and placed it before them. "Will you not eat?" he said, 27 (When they did not eat), He conceived a fear of them. They said, "Fear not," and they gave him glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge. 28 His wife came out lamenting, striking her forehead, and said: "I, am old and barren woman?" 29 They said, “This is how your Lord has decreed; indeed He only is the Wise, the All Knowing.” 30 ۞ Abraham asked, "What is your errand, O messengers?" 31 They replied: 'We are sent to a sinful nation, 32 That we may send down upon them stone of clay, 33 "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." 34 Then We evacuated those of the Believers who were there, 35 But We found in it only one household of those who had surrendered themselves, 36 And We left there a Sign for such as fear the Grievous Penalty. 37 And in Moses (was another Sign): Behold, We sent him to Pharaoh, with authority manifest. 38 but he turned his back, with his court, saying, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' 39 Then We seized him and his army and cast them all into the sea: he himself [Pharaoh] was to blame. 40 And [you have the same message] in [what happened to the tribe of] Ad, when We let loose against them that life-destroying wind 41 which spared nothing of what it came upon, but caused [all of] it to become like bones dead and decayed. 42 And in Thamud's also was a lesson, when it was said unto them: enjoy yourselves for a season. 43 But they rebelled against their Lord's decree, and so the thunderbolt overtook them even while they gazed; 44 Then they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves. 45 So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed. 46
