He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
