The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 when the stars shall be thrown down, 2 and when the mountains are made to vanish, 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 when the savage beasts are gathered 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 And when the hell is kindled up, 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 Those that run [their courses] and disappear - 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 And by the morning when it shineth forth, 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 Owner of power, and high rank with (Allah) the Lord of the Throne, 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is not except a reminder to the worlds 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
