In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
