Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
