The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
