AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 When he left towards the laden ship. 140 And then they cast lots and he was the one who lost, 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?- 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or have you clear evidence? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 Except the bondmen of Allah sincere. 160 So you and your deities 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 and we glorify God". 166 They used to say before: 167 Had we a reminder from those of yore, 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 Would they hasten on Our doom? 176 When it lights in their courtyard, how evil will be the morning of them that are warned! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 and see, soon they shall see! 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 Peace be upon the Messengers 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
