In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
