The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
