The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
