The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
