(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
