O Ye apostles! eat the good things and work righteously; verily of that which ye work I am the Knower. 51 And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other). 52 But people later cut up their religion into bits, each group rejoicing in what they have. 53 So leave them in their bewilderment for a while. 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 We are busy lavishing on them all kinds of good? Nay, they do not perceive the reality of the matter. 56 Lo! those who go in awe for fear of their Lord. 57 who believe in the revelations of their Lord, 58 and who do not ascribe divinity to aught but their Sustainer, 59 who spend their property for the cause of God, and whose hearts are afraid of their return 60 it is these who hasten to do good works and vie in so doing with one another. 61 We charge no soul with more than it can bear. We have a Book with Us which speaks the truth, and they shall not be wronged. 62 But their hearts are in confused ignorance of this; and there are, besides that, deeds of theirs, which they will (continue) to do,- 63 So that when We seize the affluent among them with affliction, they will begin to implore for help. 64 Supplicate not this day! Assuredly ye will not be helped by Us. 65 My verses were recited to you, but you turned upon your heels, 66 Insolently, treating them like tales told at night." 67 Have they not pondered over the word of God? Has something come to them that did not come to their forefathers? 68 Or, is it because they do not recognize their Messenger that they denied him? 69 Or do they say, "In him is madness?" Rather, he brought them the truth, but most of them, to the truth, are averse. 70 And if the Truth had followed their desires, verily the heavens and the earth and whosoever is therein had been corrupted. Nay, We have brought them their Reminder, but from their Reminder they now turn away. 71 Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance. 72 And indeed you call them to the Straight Path. 73 And indeed those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviated from the Straight Path. 74 ۞ And if We have mercy upon them and remove the calamity which has befallen them, they would still stubbornly persist, wandering in their rebellion. 75 (They are such) that We seized them with chastisement (and yet) they did not humble themselves before their Lord, nor do they entreat 76 Until, when We open for them the gate of severe punishment, then lo! They will be plunged into destruction with deep regrets, sorrows and in despair. 77
