A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
