The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 All matters of the past and future are in the hands of God. The believers will enjoy the help of God on that Day. 4 in the victory of Allah. Allah gives victory to whosoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 Have they not inwardly pondered – that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and a fixed term? And indeed many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 8 And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them. 10
