The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a fitting requital, 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
