The Thamud rejected the warnings, 23 and they said: "Are we to follow one single mortal, one from among ourselves? In that case, behold, we would certainly sink into error and folly! 24 Has the [Divine] message been revealed to him alone of all of us? No, he is a boastful liar." 25 They shall know tomorrow whichsoever is a liar insolent. 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 In response they called their companion – he therefore caught and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lout (Lot), whom We saved in last hour of the night, 34 As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. 35 And he [Lout (Lot)] indeed had warned them of Our Grasp, but they did doubt the warnings! 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 And indeed, the everlasting punishment overcame them early in the morning. 38 "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 39 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 40
