He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
