The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
