Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness those who scatter (dust) by dispersing, 1 and those that carry the burden [of heavy clouds,] 2 and those that speed along with gentle ease, 3 and execute the great task of apportioning (rainfall): 4 Verily the promise made to you is true: 5 And indeed, the recompense is to occur. 6 And by oath of the decorated heaven. 7 Indeed, you are in differing speech. 8 Turned aside therefrom is who is turned aside. 9 Accursed be the conjecturers 10 who are heedless in the immersion. 11 They ask: “When will the Day of Judgement be?” 12 (It is) the day when they will be tormented at the Fire, 13 (And it will be said unto them): Taste your torment (which ye inflicted). This is what ye sought to hasten. 14 The pious ones will live amidst gardens and springs, 15 Taking what their Lord gives them; surely they were before that, the doers of good. 16 Little of the night they were wont to slumber. 17 And used to seek forgiveness before dawn. 18 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share. 19 And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith] 20 And within yourselves. Can you not perceive? 21 In the sky is your provision and that which you are promised. 22 And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth, it is the truth, even as (it is true) that ye speak. 23
