Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 We now remove the punishment for some days so you will again commit the same. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
