The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
