The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah Who hath revealed the Scripture unto His slave, and hath not placed therein any crookedness, 1 A just Book, to warn of Allah’s severe punishment, and to give glad tidings to the believers who do good deeds, that for them is an excellent reward. 2 [a state of bliss] in which they shall dwell beyond the count of time. 3 And to warn those who say “Allah has chosen a child.” 4 No knowledge thereof have they, nor had their fathers. Odious is the word that cometh out of their mouths; they say not but a lie. 5 Will you kill yourself for grief of them if they do not believe in this presentation? 6 We have adorned the earth with attractive things, so that We may test mankind as to which one is best in conduct, 7 Let it be known that We will turn all things on earth into dust. 8 Or deemest thou that the People of the Cave and the Inscription are a wonder among Our portents? 9 [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." 10 Then We sealed up their hearing in the Cave for a number of years. 11 We then awakened them to see which of the two groups more accurately tells the period they had stayed. 12
