(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
