Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29
