Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
