Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
